There is currently a shortage of students who pursue STEM field careers and there are great opportunities for graduates in these fields. Up to twenty new scholarships will be available each year for students who plan to major STEM fields at Penn State Behrend. Scholarships will be available to incoming students in fall 2007-2010. Awards will be for $3600 per academic year and are renewable in future years, conditional on continued excellence in academic performance. Preference will be given to women and members of underrepresented groups, but all are eligible. Student Support
Starting off your academic career in a STEM field is both exciting and challenging. In addition to the $3,600 scholarship, you will participate in a peer mentoring program during your first year in the program. You will be advised by student peers who have been successful in STEM fields and also obtain help with academic success skills. Penn State Behrend also has a number of other related programs and student groups, including the Be-WISE freshman group (Behrend Women in the School of Engineering), as well as student chapters of the Society of Women Engineers and the National Society of Black of Engineers. How to apply Students who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15th and have been offered admission to Penn State Behrend will automatically be considered for the NSF STEM Scholarships. No separate application is required. The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The school code for all Penn State locations is 003329.
