SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Program Chair: Mr. David Loker
If you are interested in an applied approach to learning the fundamentals of electrical and computer engineering and technology, Penn State Behrend's Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program may be right for you. The ECET major provides practical, hands-on study related to the application of technology within these fields. The college offers both a four-year B.S. degree in ECET and a two-year associate degree in electrical engineering technology (EET). Nearly every class offered in the curriculum has a related laboratory. The faculty believe students learn and retain more when lecture material is verified by observation or through the analysis of a system built by a student in a lab. Typically lectures and labs are taught by the same faculty member, providing continuity of information. Also, most classes are small (fifteen to thirty students) which fosters close student-faculty interaction. The ECET program differs from the traditional electrical engineering major, which focuses upon the application of theoretical and scientific principles. It also differs from technical programs, which focus upon the development of skills used for repair and maintenance of products. The applied nature of the ECET program allows you to analyze, design and implement electrical and computer systems, based on a working knowledge of the foundational theories. |
