Gabrielle Dietrich is a singer, conductor, and educator with a passion for cultivating artistry in singers of all ages and building community through music. Gabrielle’s diverse background in leading youth, community, church, school, and professional ensembles has prepared her to be a dynamic, expressive performer and a compelling and approachable communicator.
Gabrielle comes to Erie from Colorado, where she recently completed her doctorate in Choral Conducting and Literature at the University of Colorado at Boulder. During her time at CU-Boulder, Gabrielle served as the Assistant Conductor of University Singers, coordinated the university’s annual Madrigal Festival for high school students, and also worked as the Graduate Assistant for CU’s interdisciplinary Center for British and Irish Studies.
Described by the Denver Post as “graceful and musically intuitive,” Gabrielle has frequently performed as a conductor, chorister, and soloist with many fine choral ensembles throughout the greater Denver area, including St. Martin’s Chamber Choir and St. John’s Cathedral Choir. She was a founding member of the Colorado Conductors’ Chorus and An die Musik, two ensembles comprised entirely of professional music educators. Since 2008, Gabrielle has also served as the Assistant Conductor of the 150-voice Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. Throughout the greater Denver and Boulder areas, she has creatively led intergenerational music programs for a number of churches as a Director of Music.
Dr. Dietrich holds a General Diploma in Methodology from the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemét, Hungary and was an instructor for the Kodály Graduate Program at Loyola University in Maryland from 2007-2011. Kodály-derived elements such as active music-making, a “sound before symbol” approach to musical literacy, and integration of music theory skills into the choral rehearsal are hallmarks of Gabrielle’s teaching, and have served her well in her work with young singers, including the Stockton Youth Chorale, Pacific Music Camp’s All-Camp Chorus and Chamber Choir, and school and church choruses throughout California and Colorado.
