Susan Martis earned a Ph.D. in Art History from Case Western Reserve University. Her fields of specialization are 19th- and 20th-century art in France and the United States, with research on the French sculptor Auguste Rodin and his American contemporaries, George Grey Barnard, Lorado Taft, and Malvina Hoffman. The latter is the subject of Dr. Martis’ contribution to Essays on Women’s Artistic and Cultural Contributions 1919-1939: Expanded Social Roles for the New Woman Following the First World War. In addition to her teaching experience, she was a research associate at the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities at Case Western Reserve University, where she developed thematic programming for faculty seminars and other events. Susan also worked as the assistant to the director of the Putnam Sculpture Collection at this University. At the Cleveland Museum of Art, she created and presented curricular materials for the distance learning program.
