The Bachelor of Science degree in Science provides a broad, general education in science. Students can pursue four options of study:

The interdisciplinary curriculum is designed for students whose education and career goals are not immediately met by one of the traditional majors in the sciences, or by anyone who wants a high degree of flexibility in their studies.

After completing foundation courses in calculus, chemistry, computer science, the life sciences, and physics, you'll select additional science courses from designated areas. Generous supporting credits permit you to minor or take course sequences in other fields such as business, education, or technical writing.

The Environmental Studies Option will help you understand the processes that are at work on the Earth and develop a background in the related social, economic, and political issues that dominate environmental discussions today. A core course sequence provides the fundamentals of geographic information systems, fast becoming a dominant research tool in many earth-based sciences. The natural beauty of northwestern Pennsylvania and Lake Erie offers an outstanding setting for research and internship opportunities.

The General Science Option allows you, in consultation with your adviser, to frame your studies to meet diverse career goals rooted in science. You'll use electives to broaden your career horizon: science journalism, public policy and politics, business, or technical sales are just a few possibilities.

The General Science Pre-Certification Option and the Earth and Space Science Pre-Certification Option are designed for students who want to pursue teaching certification at the secondary level.

You'll earn a four-year degree in Science, then acquire teaching skills and certification at another college or university. This generally takes one year. Penn State Behrend has a "4 + 1" teaching certification program agreement with nearby Mercyhurst College, but you will be prepared to attend any institution that offers a similar program.
