Penn State Behrend Comes Away With Tie Against Medaille
Behrend has won six of its past seven
games, while the Mavericks have been perfect the past six matches.
The game had high implications with a Behrend win the blue and white
would be the number one seed. With a Behrend loss or tie the
Mavericks would hold the number one seed in the conference
tournament.
Behrend and Medaille played a scoreless game through the first thirty-six minutes of the half until Behrend freshman midfielder Kyle McKinney (Chesterland, OH/West Geauga) took a pass from Brian Silfee (McMurray/Peters Township) and ripped it passed the Maverick's goalkeeper with only 8:57 remaining in the first period. McKinney's goal, the first of his collegiate career, will be one to remember.
The Mavericks would strike in the second half off a corner kick to tie the game at one a piece. The game would remain tied throughout regulation and two overtimes. The Behrend Lions are now 11-6-1, 7-1-1 and the Mavericks are 12-5-1 and 8-0-1 in league play.
The tie puts the Behrend Lions in a waiting game as
Frostburg and La Roche will play later tonight. A Frostburg
win will drop the Behrend Lions to a number three seed and they
would host a #3 vs. #6 seed game on Saturday, November 1 on the
Behrend Fields. A Frostburg tie or loss would give the blue
and white a number two seed and would put them playing the winner of
the #4 vs. #5 game on Wednesday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. on the
Behrend Fields.
