Behrend Water Polo Takes Third at Division
III Eastern Championships
The Penn State Behrend men's water polo
squad traveled to Johns Hopkins University to participate in the
Division III Eastern Championships on October 25 and 26 and snagged
a third place finish. The blue and white started out by
smacking Connecticut College 21-12 in the first match of the
championships. Behrend then dropped a 5-20 decision to host
Johns Hopkins and fell short against MIT, losing a hardfought 15-20
matchup. Behrend would rebound in its final match at the
championships and secure a 12-9 win over Washington & Jefferson.
Behrend sophomore Jon Bacon (Glendale, CA/Crespi Carmelite) and
junior Matt Pluta (Erie/Cathedral Prep) were selected to the
all-tournament second-team. Pluta slammed home 13 goals over
the four matches while Bacon found the back of the net 12 times for
the blue and white.
Head coach Joe Tristan said, "The guys played four great games as a
team, and I can't ask for anything more. We converted on offense
and defense and made great choices. Our goal was to finish in the
top three and we accomplished that. Now our focus will be on
preparing for the Southern Division Championships."
Penn State Behrend men's water polo will compete to in the Southern
Division Championships November 7 and 8 hosted at Princeton
University with opponents to be determined.
