Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

Head Coach Roz Fornari

Roz Fornari enters her seventeenth season as the head coach of the Penn State Behrend Lions women's basketball team. 

Fornari's resume is full of positive statistical data. She is the all-time leader in women's basketball coaching victories at Behrend. She boasts a 270 and 158 career mark, while her teams have set numerous school records during her tenure. 

On January 21, 2008 Fornari picked up win number 250 in her illustrious Behrend career with a home victory over Pitt-Bradford. The 2008-2009 season saw the Behrend Lions post a 13-12 overall mark, losing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference first round as the number four overall seed.

Fornari's teams are regular members of the postseason earning three NCAA appearances, and five ECAC playoff appearances, including the 1995-96 ECAC Southern Region Championship. They also captured the 2003-04 and 1998-1999 AMCC Conference Tournament Championship. Her 1993-94 team and coaching staff were inducted into the Penn State Behrend Athletic Hall of Fame as one of the greatest teams in school history after recording a 21-6 mark and playing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  She has been honored four times by her coaching peers as the AMCC Coach of the Year. 

After back-to-back 17-10 seasons, Coach Fornari's 2006-07 crew finished 21-6 and 15-3 in the AMCC while posting its tenth consecutive winning season.  Fornari's teams have won or tied for the conference regular-season title in five AMCC seasons.

Fornari is well-respected in the basketball community and has given several speaking engagements at clinics, camps, basketball banquets, and served on several basketball committees. She has served on the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Committee and has been the chair of the Great Lakes Region from 2004-07.

The women's basketball team is looking forward to another outstanding season. Fornari's expectations are once again high for this year's squad which will make a run at the league championship.

Fornari is also a lecturer of health and physical education. She is a graduate of Hofstra University, and earned her master's degree from Alfred University.

Assistant Coach Julie Marriott

Julie Marriott is set to begin her first season as a member of coach Roz Fornari's basketball staff.

Marriott was a four-year starter and two-time WBCA All-American performer at the University of Rochester. She also served the Yellowjackets as a two-year captain, while the program advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 during each of her four seasons in uniform.

Marriott earned her degree in mathematics and is working on her master's of business administration while at Behrend.

Assistant Coach Becky Reed 

Becky Reed begins her fourteenth season as a volunteer assistant coach. Reed's duties include working with the guards on shooting and defensive ability. 

Reed is a Behrend graduate and was a two-sport standout.  Throughout her basketball career Reed led her teams to two ECAC Championships and a trip to the NCAAs.  Reed never experienced a losing season at Penn State Behrend. 

She was the John Zahniser Female athlete of the Year winner  in 1996 and has an award in her name. The "Becky Reed Spark Plug Award" is given annually to a current player that emulates and contributes the enthusiasm and spirit that she gave her teammates.  In 2006, Reed was inducted into the Behrend Lions Athletics Hall of Fame.

Reed graduated with a degree in management.  She is employed at GE Transportation Systems.

Assistant Coach Amy Stranahan

Amy Stranahan is entering her eighteenth season as a volunteer assistant coach. 

Her many duties have included development of post players and assisting in time management.

Stranahan has been responsible for planning trips to Las Vegas, Italy, Tennessee, Kentucky, and most recently assisted in the trip in August to Italy. Stranahan has played a key role in the success of each season by lending her strong organizational skills to lead the blue and white.

As a graduate of Penn State Behrend, Stranahan was a four-year letter winner in volleyball. Stranahan received a degree in electrical engineering.  She is now employed at GE-Transportation, where she is a electrical engineer.
