About Erie
Erie, a metropolitan area of 280,000, is located on Lake Erie's beautiful Presque Isle Bay and offers a wide variety of cultural, sports, and recreational resources.
A revitalized Lake Erie draws thousands of people to the area throughout the four seasons. Presque Isle, a 3,200-acre state park, offers more than a dozen miles of sandy beaches, boating, and a
thirteen-mile
trail for walking, jogging, in-line-skating, and cross-country skiing. The rejuvenated Bayfront District serves as home port to the U.S. Brig Niagara, a victor in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
The region boasts a thriving arts community, including a philharmonic, several theatre companies, dance companies, and historical art museums. A 7,000-seat civic arena draws big-name performers to
suit every musical taste. Erie is home to the baseball SeaWolves, a Class Double A affiliate of the
Detroit Tigers in the Eastern League, and you also
can watch the Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.
Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority buses leave campus every half-hour, putting virtually all of Greater Erie within reach, including nearby movie theatres and major shopping malls. The Peek'n Peak ski resort in nearby Findley Lake, New York, is thirty minutes away.
In addition, Erie is conveniently located within two hours of Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, and is a comfortable four-hour drive from both Toronto and the University Park campus.
