Behrend volleyball team wins 5-set match against La Roche

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team won a five-set match against La Roche to remain undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. The third set of the match included nine ties and three lead changes. The college’s soccer, cross-country, swimming and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights.

Avi Loeb will discuss the search for extraterrestrial life on Friday, Nov. 1, when he visits Penn State Behrend as part of the college’s 2019-20 Speaker Series. His talk, which is presented in partnership with the Jefferson Educational Society and its Global Summit Lecture Series, begins at 7:30 p.m. in McGarvey Commons, in the college’s Reed Union Building.

Harborcreek Township supervisor candidates Lynda Meyer and Steve Oler will debate issues of importance to the community during a forum sponsored by the Public Policy Fund at Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The program, which begins at 6 p.m. in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building, is free and open to the public.

Behrend students discover invasive shrimp species in Lake Erie

A Penn State Behrend research team discovered the first evidence of Hemimysis anomala, an invasive species of shrimp, in Lake Erie's Pennsylvania waters. The team is developing a method of testing ballast water in ships traveling from areas where the shrimp are now common.

Behrend soccer team rebounds after season's first loss

A single goal by Medaille – on the team’s only shot of the game – snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team. The Lions responded with 11 goals in their next two games. The college’s golf, volleyball, tennis, swimming and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights.

As part of Penn State’s Campus Arts Initiative project, Cleveland-based sculptor Lauren Herzak-Bauman has been using Penn State Behrend's plastics processing lab to create, mold and fabricate the materials needed for “Color Walk,” the site-specific art project to be installed on the college in November.
