Engineering Challenges Made Fun NEW

Learn to build and test many different kinds of structures including a boat you test in water. Discover what kind of structures work best for building up, holding weight, flying and more!

Beginner Model Rocketry

Explore the exciting world of model rocketry. Following strict safety rules, participants will build a reusable model rocket  they will launch during class and then again at home. Participants will design their own launch system which will include a wooden launch pad and electronic ignition system. Family members will be invited to watch participants successfully launch their rockets on the final day of class.

Junk Journaling NEW

Gather your photos, some bits of memorabilia and some "junk" and together we will learn how to make a "Junk Journal" out of an old book and everyday supplies. Sharpen your math skills while measuring and cutting paper and learning to crop and mount photos while your create your own journal. Please bring 10-15 photos.

Acting for the Stage 1

Learn the art of Narrative Pantomime, how to take stage direction, how to develop character, projection, stage presence and techniques for memorizing lines. All the skills young actors need to gain familiarity with a future in performing arts. The week long session will culminate in a performance for friends and family.

Come and explore the world of robotics. From toys, to robots used in industry, to the robots used in the space program, robots are everywhere. We will be experimenting, programming, creating and completing projects using the Lego Mindstorm system, VEX Robotics Kits, TriBot, Robosapien, Jitter Bot, MIP and more.

Minecraft

Learn the features of Minecraft as you explore its history and play the game. Use your creativity to explore and build your own world, learn new game tricks and engage in group play. Must have a PC Minecraft account (not portable device account) established prior to class.

Solar System Hoops

Join us for this unique, fun and creative dance and science experience. Discover hoop dance techniques, make your own hoop and begin to understand the elements of dance and composition while learning about the elements of our solar system. Visit the Yahn Planetarium for inspiration as you create and perform dances inspired by the planets! A performance for friends and family will be held at the end of the week.

Engineering Possibilities with K'Nex

Discover how the field of engineering is much more than building bridges and buildings. Using the K’nex building system, students will build and test various designs, structures, vehicles and machines. These designs will allow students to understand the concepts of; Motion and Energy, Power and Propulsion, Engineering Design and Mechanical Systems, Measurement and Computation along with many other STEM concepts.

Based on Discovery Channel’s  hit TV show “MythBusters,” this class explores engineering concepts ”just to see what happens.” Which type of racing car goes faster? What are the different kinds of bridges, are they safe, and how do we build one? How does an electric circuit work? We will have design contests, explore the college’s engineering facilities, and have lots of fun. This class is for all girls and boys who want to learn about the different fields of engineering.
