Penn State’s online master's in project management program is one of the top five programs of its kind, according to new rankings by BestMastersPrograms.org. The national rankings were based on each program’s academic reputation, tuition value and track record of student satisfaction.
Penn State’s program is offered through Penn State World Campus. Faculty members from the Sam and Irene Black School of Business at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, administer the curriculum, which includes courses in team leadership, supply chain management, enterprise resource planning, corporate strategy and commercial law.
Approximately 100 students are currently enrolled in the program, which is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management. Their coursework provides the planning, cost-control and human resources skills that are necessary to properly manage projects. A 12-credit graduate certificate in project management is embedded in the program, giving students a corporate advantage even before they complete the master’s degree.
Full-time project managers earn, on average, $105,000 annually, according to the Project Management Institute. Demand for them is increasing: An average of 1.2 million project management positions will need to be filled each year through 2016, according to the institute.
Penn State’s online program is ranked fifth in the new report from BestMastersPrograms.org. The program outperformed similar programs at Purdue, Drexel, George Washington and Embry-Riddle universities.
