Take a musical journey with the Behrend Concert Band

‘Journeys’ to be performed Tuesday, April 18
The Penn State Behrend Concert Band’s annual spring performance will be held Tuesday, April 18, at 8 p.m. in McGarvey Commons at the college.

The Penn State Behrend Concert Band’s annual spring performance will be held Tuesday, April 18, at 8 p.m. in McGarvey Commons at the college.

The program, titled “Journeys” is intended to be a musical travelogue across several continents. Selections will include “Morning, Noon, & Night in Vienna” by Franz von Suppe and “Country Gardens” by the Australian composer Percy Grainger.

The world premiere of “The Journey” by Behrend alumnus Jordan Mushrush will also be included in the program as well as highlights from the animated film “Princess Mononoke” and the collegiate premiere of “Reluctant Joys,” a medley of slave songs arranged by Brant Karrick. The concert will conclude with national march, “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Phillip Sousa.

The Behrend Concert Band is conducted by Gary Viebranz, a senior lecturer in music at Behrend. Enrollment in the band is open to all Behrend students with previous instrumental experience.
