Penn State World Campus most recognized in U.S. News’ online programs rankings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State World Campus is ranked in the top 10 in six categories of U.S. News and World Report’s 2017 Best Online Programs, the most of any institution.

The rankings, released today (Jan. 10), comprise public and private colleges and universities across the country that offer degrees online. The categories include graduate programs in engineering, business, education and information technology and bachelor’s programs.

U.S. News weighed student engagement, faculty credentials, academic services and reputation in developing the rankings.

The rankings are:

  • No. 4, best online graduate engineering programs;
  • No. 5, best online graduate computer information technology programs;
  • No. 7 (tie), best online graduate business programs;
  • No. 8, best online MBA programs;
  • No. 8 (tie), best online bachelor’s programs; and
  • No. 9, best online graduate education programs.

U.S. News’ 2017 Best Online Programs for Veterans rankings are based on the same factors as the Best Online Programs rankings and an institution’s ability to make college more affordable through the GI Bill or other grant-in-aid programs designed for military students.

The military rankings are:

  • No. 1, best online graduate education programs;
  • No. 2, best online graduate engineering programs;
  • No. 2, best online graduate computer information technology programs;
  • No. 3 (tie), best online graduate business programs;
  • No. 4, best online MBA programs; and
  • No. 7 (tie), best online bachelor’s programs.

Penn State launched the World Campus in 1998 with four online programs and 41 students. Over the past 19 years, the number of online offerings has grown to more than 125 online degrees and certificates, and the number of students stands at more than 13,000 across the globe.
