'Song, Story, and Remembrance' theme highlights Penn State Behrend Concert

ERIE, Pa. — The Concert Band at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will perform its annual fall concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the McGarvey Commons of the college’s Reed Union Building.

The first half of “Song, Story, and Remembrance” includes original works for band by Ralph Vaughan-Williams and Haydn Wood, and “Puszta,” a set of four Hungarian dances by Jan van der Roost. Eric Ewazen's “Hymn for the Lost and the Living (In Memorium September 11, 2001)” and “Of Sailors and Whales,” four scenes based on Herman Melville's “Moby Dick,” highlight the concert’s second half. The performance will conclude with “The Florentiner March.”

The Behrend Concert Band is conducted by Gary Viebranz, associate teaching professor of music and director of instrumental ensembles. Enrollment in the band is open to all Behrend students with previous instrumental experience.
