Sustainability community program expands across Commonwealth with PepsiCo funds

Five Penn State campuses have been awarded PepsiCo Challenge Mini Grants to expand community engagement efforts through Penn State’s Sustainable Communities Collaborative (SCC). Penn State Abington, Altoona, Beaver, Behrend and Brandywine will take part in a three-year pilot program to expand the SCC to Penn State communities outside of University Park.

New engine design powers Behrend Supermileage vehicle to 2,418 mpg

Powered by a new engine, Penn State Behrend’s Society of Automotive Engineers club team vehicle finished second in this year’s International Supermileage Challenge, held June 8-9 at the Eaton Corporation’s Marshall Proving Grounds test track. The vehicle traveled 2,418 miles on one gallon of gas.

1,100 fifth-graders learn about water conservation at Penn State Behrend

More than 1,100 Erie County students attended the Children’s Water Festival at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The event is designed to teach students the importance of ground water, surface water, watersheds, water quality and water conservation through dynamic, hands-on activities.

The end-of-semester Trash to Treasure indoor yard sale at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will again benefit bargain-hunters, the environment and United Way of Erie County. The sale will be held in Erie Hall on Saturday, May 13.
