BCM24 The Purchase and/or Permanent Installation of Audio Visual Equipment on Campus

Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to outline the process used for the acquisition of Audio Visual Equipment and the process for installation on the Penn State Behrend campus. The intent is to ensure that the efficient selection of equipment is purchased and proper installation is followed in all instructional spaces. Audio Visual Equipment is defined as monitors, flat panels, control systems, projectors, recording devices, splitters, amplifiers, switches, playback devices, etc., and the running of cable (AC, audio, video, data) either surface or concealed.

Background

Information Technology Services (ITS) oversees the acquisition and maintenance of AV equipment in the instructional classrooms and labs. Maintenance and Operations (M&O) oversees the installation of equipment in other spaces in the Academic Buildings. AV projects without initial input from the ITS and M&O jeopardize adequate support for troubleshooting, part replacement, and improper installations established by M&O.

Procedure

Requesters of the acquisition and or installation of any AV equipment shall:

  • First, contact the Vice Chancellor, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to approve modifications to the instructional space.
  • Second, contact the ITS to review, recommend, and approve what equipment should be purchased, supported, and maintained.
  • Third, contact M&O for approval of acceptable installation methods.
