Congratulations, graduates!

Penn State Behrend's spring commencement ceremony celebrated the Class of 2019.

A total of 713 degrees were awarded at Penn State Behrend’s spring commencement ceremony, held Friday, May 3, at Erie Insurance Arena. Michael Rutter, associate professor of statistics, gave the faculty address – a longstanding tradition at the college’s commencement programs.

“Continuing to learn, continuing to pursue knowledge, is a noble, lifelong endeavor,” he said. “Hopefully, we have given you the tools to continue that pursuit.”

Alumna Mary (Good) Lawrence gave the commencement address. She is one of just 30 NASA flight directors, with responsibility for all human spaceflight programs, including the International Space Station.

“Be deliberate in defining the set of values that will shape who you will become,” she said. “I have learned that you are never ready, the journey is never over, and you never ‘arrive.’ The point is to enjoy the journey, embrace the fear, and turn it into a drive to build your own set of skills and experience.

“Keep reaching,” she said.
