Panic! at the Disco Plays at Behrend

Pop-rock band Panic! at the Disco headlined the spring concert. Panic! and the opening act, Secret Weapons, played for more than two hours to a sell-out crowd of more than 2,550 at Junker Center!

Professors Pied

Several Penn State Behrend professors took pies to the face during a Pi Day celebration in Burke Center. It was all for a good cause; proceeds benefited United Way of Erie County. Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant—the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is celebrated each year on March 14.

21st Century Kids enjoy STEM workshops

Nearly seventy students from Warren County middle schools filtered water, experimented with dry ice, learned basic programming, and studied “the mathematics of tarantulas,” while participating in the college’s 21st Century Kids program this spring. The STEM-focused workshops, taught by Penn State Behrend faculty members, are designed to introduce students to the college environment and the opportunities a postsecondary education can provide.

Alumna, a NASA Flight Director, Speaks at Engineering Conference

Mary (Good) Lawrence ’01, center in photo at left, a Mechanical Engineering graduate and flight director at NASA in Houston, was the featured speaker at the Fasenmyer Engineering Design Conference this spring. Lawrence is pictured with Chancellor Ralph Ford, left, and Dr. Russell Warley, interim director of the School of Engineering. Spring Commencement
