Alumnus gives Commencement Address
Behrend alumnus Matthew Bresee ’00, a communication and media studies graduate, gave the Commencement Address at the college’s fall 2017 graduation ceremony in December.
Bresee is president of the Erie BayHawks, the NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks. He joined the BayHawks as vice president of operations before the team’s inaugural season in 2008 and was promoted to president in 2009. He is a 2012 recipient of the Penn State Alumni Association’s Alumni Achievement Award, an honor given annually to graduates who demonstrate extraordinary professional accomplishment before the age of 35.

Reschenthaler receives Alumni Achievement Award
Political science alumnus Senator Guy L. Reschenthaler ‘04 was recently honored with an Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes accomplished Penn State alumni 35 years of age or younger. Reschenthaler represents the 37th District in the Pennsylvania Senate, serving portions of Allegheny County and Peters Township in Washington County. He was elected to the state Senate in November 2015, winning a special election, and was re-elected in November 2016. He serves on the Penn State Behrend Council of Fellows advisory board. After earning his bachelor of arts at Penn State Behrend in three years, Reschenthaler completed law school at Duquesne University.
Alumna wins poetry award
English alumna Jen Town ‘04 was named the 2017 May Sarton New Hampshire Poetry Prize Winner for her collection, The Light of What Comes After. Town’s poetry has appeared in Mid-American Review, Cimarron Review, Epoch, Third Coast, Lake Effect, Crab Orchard Review, Unsplendid, Bellingham Review, and others.
