Registration closes one week prior to class start date.

Morning Sessions: 9:00 a.m.–Noon
Afternoon Sessions: 1:00–4:00 p.m.
All-Day Sessions: 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Week 1: June 20-24


Cooking Cuisines of the World

Taste the world in five days. Learn to cook traditional meals from different places around the world. Immerse yourself into other cultures as you prepare cuisines from different places in Europe and Asia. (Please make sure to explicitly list if your child has food allergies.)

Wreck-It Journaling—NEW

You will hone your thoughts, feelings, and energy into destroying each page of your journal in fun and unique ways. Come prepared to get weird, loud, and messy!

DIY Boardgaming: Past, Present, and Future—NEW

Play board games and card games while learning to apply logic, critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning skills. Plus, design and create their own board game to play with your classmates and then take home at the end of the week.

A Puzzling Situation—NEW

What is your favorite puzzle to solve? Join us for one week of origami, tangrams, and Rubik's Cube. (You WILL solve it!) You will devise your own solutions to some very interesting puzzles. How about aerodynamics?? What do you really know about flight? And geometric art—do you have a creative side? This is your opportunity to show off what you can do!

Roller Coaster Physics

Roller coaster physics will teach you about the physics involved in the popular amusement park ride, and then you'll build your own roller coasters out of K’Nex and paper! Plus, you'll get a behind-the-scenes tour of real roller coasters at Waldameer!

Poetry Writing: Crash Course

A class for your poetry writers to learn to read, analyze, write, and revise poetry.

When the Whole World Was at War

Are you a history buff? Did your grandparents or great-grandparents live through World War II? Join us as we travel back in time to examine this profound period in history. We'll examine the risks, the “what ifs,” and the major players—Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin. We'll research Nazi propaganda, the Holocaust, and weapons of mass destruction. You'll have an opportunity to voice your opinion during class debate. We'll even build our own plane and hold our own mock trial!

Step It Up: Advanced Drawing

Let's challenge your drawing skills. You'll learn one- and two-point perspective and work with pencils and colored pencils. Drawing on various surfaces will be encouraged. Animals and landscapes will be the subject matter this week.

Introduction to Robotics

Explore the world of robotics. Robots are everywhere! In toys, in machines used in industry, even in the space program. We will be experimenting, programming, creating, and completing projects using the EV3 LEGO Mindstorm system, Robosapien, Jitter Bot, MIP and more.

Next Level Guitar 1—NEW

Take your guitar skills to the next level by learning interesting new chords and the basics of music theory. Recommended for those familiar with basics of the guitar. Taught by local artist Trevor Vogt. Guitars will be provided for your use, but you are welcome to bring your own.

The Joy of Painting—NEW

Watercolors, acrylics, and face painting will be featured in this class. You'll learn to show detail in watercolors, blend and layer colors in acrylics, and use professional techniques in face painting.

Week 5: July 25-29

 

Next Level Guitar 2—NEW

Take your guitar skills to the next level by learning interesting new chords and the basics of music theory. Recommended for those familiar with basics of the guitar. Taught by local artist Trevor Vogt. Guitars will be provided for your use, but you are welcome to bring your own. (Note: Those who have taken Next Level Guitar 1 in Week 4 are welcome to continue training in this class, but it is not necessary in order to take Next Level Guitar 2.)

Sculpture—Nature by Design

This class will be inspired by designs in nature. The art and architecture of Franklin Lloyd Wright will be introduced. You will design your own sculpture pieces using paper, wire, glass, and metal.
