Beginner Model Rocketry

Explore the exciting world of model rocketry using several STEM principles. Following strict safety rules, participants will build a reusable model rocket they will launch during class and then again at home. Participants will design their own launch system which will include a wooden launch pad and electronic ignition system. Family members will be invited to watch participants successfully launch their rockets on the final day of class.

Acting for the Stage 2

This class picks up right where Acting for the Stage I lets off. Participants will learn through games and acting exercises how to bring the characters in a script to life. Laugh and learn many of the same techniques your favorite actors use while preparing and performing their roles. The class will culminate with a performance of one of the acts on the last day of the class.

Acting for the Stage 1

Learn the art of Narrative Pantomime, how to take stage direction, how to develop character, projection, stage presence and techniques for memorizing lines. All the skills young actors need to gain familiarity with a future in performing arts. The week long session will culminate in a performance for friends and family.

Edible Science

"Make sure you lick the bowl" is not something you usually hear after completing a science experiment. Join in the fun and experience a variety of science experiments and activities using food and other household items. Discover scientific principles in chemistry, physics, earth science and biology. Fishing is FUN! NEW

Discover the outdoor sport of fishing! Learn the basics of fishing, and how to improve your existing skills. Hands on learning and practice will cover different types of fishing baits, lures, poles, and tackle. We will learn about the roles of the PA Fish and Boat Commission, S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie, fishing safety, and the rules and laws we must follow. This will all lead up to the final day where we take a field trip to Presque Isle State Park and participate in a real fishing experience!

Engineering Possibilities with K'Nex

Discover how the field of engineering is much more than building bridges and buildings. Using the K’nex building system, students will build and test various designs, structures, vehicles and machines. These designs will allow students to understand the concepts of; Motion and Energy, Power and Propulsion, Engineering Design and Mechanical Systems, Measurement and Computation along with many other STEM concepts.

The Third Dimension- Sculpture with a Purpose

Lighthouse Keeper NEW

Experience what it might have been like to live in a lighthouse and be a lighthouse keeper. Enchanted Engineering NEW

What if we can save the princess, beat the dragon or overcome the villain in a new and different way? What if we create a tool or system to help the characters solve their problem? What if we re-write the ending to a classic tale? This class will trigger the creativity of your children by asking them to imagine possibilities and develop solutions beyond the stories that they know and love. Participants in this class will experience a variety of children's’ literature and corresponding, hands-on challenges which will facilitate cooperative learning, problem solving and higher level thinking skills. They will use these skills to design and build structures to address existing problems in some wonderful children’s literature including Where the Wild Things Are, The Gingerbread Man and Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.

Cryptozoology

We hear about endangered species every day, but what about mystery species that may also be teetering on the edge? Cryptozoology seeks to identify and confirm these creatures, and during this week you will learn the methods and skills used by cryptozoologists. We'll look at the more famous cryptids like sasquatch and lesser known creatures like Thunderbirds and lake creatures and learn the best ways to investigate their existence. You'll learn the history of cryptozoology, famous cryptozoologists, and some "found" cryptids as we study zoology and ecology to decide just how likely it is that any of these creatures are roaming the world. Might they be real? Answer that question yourself by the end of the week!
