The Next Step in STEM program is a three-day summer camp at Penn State Behrend focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Membership or participation in this program is not limited by sex or gender. This program is open to all applicants who satisfy its academic criteria.
Area high school students, in grades nine or ten, who participated in Wabtec Girls Who STEAM, Math Options Career Day, or other Behrend K-12 outreach programs while in middle school are encouraged to apply.
Next Step in STEM participants work with faculty members and student researchers to explore a college laboratory environment and use materials to design, model, extrude, test, compress, and assemble projects related to lip gloss, sneakers, and plastic.
The program runs from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily. A nominal cost to participate includes lunch every day. The program has limited seating.
