Keynote Speaker

Wes Salandro ’09

Vice President of Production, SpaceX

As vice president of production at SpaceX, Wes Salandro leads the production teams for the Falcon and Dragon programs. Since 2019, he has managed the company’s production operations focused on safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Before joining SpaceX, he was the senior director of manufacturing at Vector Launch Inc., leading teams focused on building rocket prototypes and establishing in-house core manufacturing competencies. Prior to that, he served in a leadership position at the Silicon Valley electric vehicle start-up Lucid Motors, where he established a quality department and created an electric vehicle battery production line from scratch. He also spent five years working for the BMW Group at various locations within the U.S. and internationally. During that time, he supported several new vehicle model launches at the Spartanburg and Oxford plants, ultimately leading him to oversee multiple production assembly teams at Plant Oxford.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State Behrend in 2009 and a Ph.D. from Clemson University with a focus on manufacturing research.

About the Richard J. Fasenmyer Conference

The Richard J. Fasenmyer Engineering Design Conference showcases the results of yearlong engineering senior capstone projects supervised and managed by Penn State Behrend students and guided by their faculty and industry advisers. In many cases, the projects address applied problems posed by industrial sponsors.

The first public presentation of senior design projects at Behrend was held April 22, 1995. In 2005, the conference was named to honor the legacy of Richard J. Fasenmyer ’69, a longtime supporter of Penn State Behrend’s School of Engineering, an Alumni Fellow, and a Distinguished Alumnus of the University.
