Meet Our Staff
Dr. Gabrielle Dietrich, YPC Erie Artistic Director and Conductor
Dr. Dietrich is a singer, conductor, and educator with a passion for cultivating artistry in singers of all ages and building community through music. Her diverse background includes leading youth, community, church, school, and professional ensembles, and providing instruction on a variety of academic topics in music. For the past five years, Gabrielle has served as Director of Choral Ensembles and Assistant Teaching Professor of Music at Penn State Behrend, a position that encompasses her duties as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Young People’s Chorus of Erie. Prior to her move to Erie in 2012, Gabrielle lived in Colorado, conducting numerous collegiate and graduate student ensembles and maintaining an active professional life in the greater Denver community, including four years serving as the assistant conductor of the Denver Gay Men's Chorus. She also designed and taught curricula for music theory and aural skills graduate courses at the American Kodály Institute at Loyola University in Maryland from 2007 to 2011. When not teaching or conducting, Gabrielle enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her rescue greyhound, Gordon.
Ms. Alyson Amendola, YPC Erie Executive Director
Alyson Amendola has been the Executive Director of the Young People’s Chorus of Erie since July 2012. Previously, she held positions as Executive Director of the Erie County Historical Society and Director of Communications in the Office of the Erie County Executive. Alyson is a graduate of Edinboro University and has an extensive public service background. Alyson is a past board member of the Erie Playhouse and served as chair of the Perry 200 Education Committee. She is president of the Dramashop Board of Directors and a member of the WQLN Community Advisory Board. Alyson has been recognized for her contributions to the community in numerous ways including the Penn State Behrend’s Best staff award, Mercyhurst Preparatory School Distinguished Alumni Award for Service, a Generation-E Leadership Award recipient from Young Erie Professionals and a Women Making History award from the Mercy Center for Women.
Ms. Marit Bakken Barber, YPC Erie Production Manager
Marit Bakken Barber previously worked for Hammer Residences in Wayzata, Minnesota. She is a graduate of Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Psychology. While at Augsburg, Marit was a member of the Augsburg Choir, the college’s premier choral ensemble. During her time in the Augsburg Choir, she had the opportunity to perform throughout the United States, Canada and Ireland, and for King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway during their visit to the United States in 2011.
Ms. Emily Cabanillas, YPC Erie Pianist
Emily Cabanillas studied piano under Sam Rotberg at Mercyhurst University. She is currently the co-music minister with her husband Daniel at St George Church and St John the Baptist Church in Erie, as well as the music director at Holy Rosary Church in Erie. Emily started working as a collaborative pianist in her teen years, playing for the Lake Erie Concert Choir. She has enjoyed accompanying her husband Daniel Cabanillas who is a local tenor. Emily also homeschools her six children when she is not busy with music.
Mr. Matthew Krull, YPC Erie Pianist
Matthew Krull is a student at Penn State Behrend, studying Mechanical Engineering and Physics. In addition to accompanying Chorale and Concert Chorus, Matthew is a teaching assistant for the physics department. In his free time, Matthew enjoys playing musical instruments, ice skating, and watching hockey.
