Shell Pennsylvania Chemicals is building a $6 billion ethane "cracker" plant, similar to this facility, in Beaver County. When it opens in 2020, the plant will shorten the supply chain and reduce production costs for plastics manufacturers in Erie.

A May 1 ribbon-cutting ceremony formally opened the $1 million HERO BX biodiesel lab at Penn State Behrend. Undergraduate students will work with HERO BX chemists to reduce the sulfur content in biodiesel feedstocks.
