Behrend campus garden becomes a community resource

More than 40,000 people in Erie County do not have consistent access to fresh, affordable food. Penn State Behrend's campus garden and food pantry can help reduce that number, Will Taylor says.

Erie native Will Taylor was the first AmeriCorps VISTA member at Penn State Behrend. He helped manage the campus garden and food pantry and the Waste Not program, which donates food to the Erie City Mission.

Penn State Behrend's Children’s Water Festival creates young conservationists

More than 1,000 Erie County fifth-grade students attended the Children's Water Festival, held May 17 at Penn State Behrend. The day-long event is designed to educate students about the importance of water, including ground water, surface water, watersheds, water quality and water conservation, through dynamic, hands-on activities.

Sustainability community program expands across Commonwealth with PepsiCo funds

Five Penn State campuses have been awarded PepsiCo Challenge Mini Grants to expand community engagement efforts through Penn State’s Sustainable Communities Collaborative (SCC). Penn State Abington, Altoona, Beaver, Behrend and Brandywine will take part in a three-year pilot program to expand the SCC to Penn State communities outside of University Park.

New engine design powers Behrend Supermileage vehicle to 2,418 mpg

Powered by a new engine, Penn State Behrend’s Society of Automotive Engineers club team vehicle finished second in this year’s International Supermileage Challenge, held June 8-9 at the Eaton Corporation’s Marshall Proving Grounds test track. The vehicle traveled 2,418 miles on one gallon of gas.
