Applications and Scholarships

  • Penn State Behrend has scholarships for students who demonstrate financial need and will be completing their education at Behrend. Information about the Chancellor’s Scholarship and the application for the Behrend Study Abroad Scholarship can be found under scholarships for undergraduate students in the financial aid section of the Behrend website.
  • If you are planning to transfer to another campus of the University, check with that campus to see what scholarships are available there.
  • The Global Programs Office provides both need-based and merit-based scholarships to students at all university locations.
  • Certain programs, such as those provided through IES, also offer scholarships based on merit, need, and other factors.
  • There are also national scholarships, such as the Gilman Scholarship and Boren Scholarship, that have additional requirements.

For information on amounts of awards, eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application support, see the study abroad adviser. Call 814-898-6140 or email to schedule an appointment.

Full-semester programs ask for a listing of courses you might take abroad. All programs require at least one faculty recommendation, some require two.

Forms and application methods differ from program to program, but most are online and ask variations of the following questions:

  • Why did you choose this program?
  • What you will gain from living in another culture?
  • Which graduation requirements will the courses you take overseas complete?
  • How does studying abroad fit in with your career goals?

When you’ve narrowed your choice of program and are ready to make a decision and apply, schedule an appointment with Ruth Pflueger, Director of the Learning Resource Center, to review the process that is required for that program. Call 814-898-6140 or email with questions or to schedule an appointment.
