Multi-state collaboration to develop testing ground for sustainable power grids

With the goal of alleviating uncertainties around smart power grids, the Appalachian Regional Commission has provided a collaboration of universities — including Penn State researchers — across multiple states with $10 million to develop and deploy services that enable electric utility companies and energy tech startups to model and test different scenarios before implementation.

Behrend professor writing book about Rosenwald Fund and 'politics of knowledge'

Julius Rosenwald, the former chief executive officer of Sears, donated more than $50 million through fellowships and other giving. That funding often came with conditions, which limited the careers of the fellows, said Emily Masghati, an assistant professor of history at Penn State Behrend. She was recently awarded an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant to write a book about the fellowship program.

Behrend basketball players score 1,000th career points

With the first shot of the game — a pull-up jumper against Pitt-Bradford — Majewski, a junior from Erie, scored her 1,000th point for Penn State Behrend. Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored his 1,000th point three days later, in a win over Penn State Altoona.

Behrend wrestling team wins home opener

The Penn State Behrend wrestling team won its home opener against Waynesburg, taking eight of the night’s 10 matches. Heavyweight Matthew Caldwell, a freshman from Wheatfield, New York, earned his sixth pin of the season.
