College Named a Military Friendly School

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is included on a new list honoring the colleges, universities and trade schools that provide the most supportive academic environment for America’s service members, veterans and military spouses.

The 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled by Victory Media, publisher of GI Jobs magazine. It singles out the top 15 percent of the 12,000 Veterans Affairs-approved institutions in the United States based on the services and resources they offer to service-connected students.

“Penn State Behrend is committed to making sure that our veteran students find success in and out of the classroom,” Dr. Mary-Ellen Madigan, the college’s director of enrollment management, said. “We have comprehensive services for them, including a one-stop office that offers complete admissions, financial aid and scheduling assistance. We also have a full-time financial aid counselor assigned to veterans who helps these students maximize the benefits they’ve earned through their military service and makes them aware of advantages they might not know about, such as VA-paid tutoring.”
