The Penn State Behrend softball team swept a doubleheader against John Carroll University, winning 3-0 and 4-0. Pitcher Abby Tingley, a sophomore from Union City, earned her 100th career strikeout. She was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Behrend’s track and field and volleyball teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Softball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, John Carroll 0
  • Penn State Behrend 4, John Carroll 0

Kayla Lindberg, a senior from Austinburg, Ohio, struck out eight batters in five innings of work in the nightcap. Julia Jones, a freshman from Wilcox, earned the save.

Men’s track and field

Dan Dabrowski, a senior from Harborcreek Township, won the discus throw at the Carnegie Mellon Invite. He recorded a 51.07-meter throw. Matthew Leslavic, a junior from Evans City, won the javelin event with a throw of 54.42 meters. Aidan Grieneisen, a freshman from Brockway, was second, with a throw of 54.33 meters.

Women’s track and field

Julia Balaski, a sophomore from Mercer, placed second in the javelin throw at the Carnegie Mellon Invite. She threw a distance of 37.39 meters. Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, placed fourth in the pole vault. She cleared a height of 3.43 meters.

Men’s volleyball

  • Hiram 3, Penn State Behrend 1
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Wells 0

Daniel Easly, a sophomore from Erie, scored five kills for the final five points against Wells – in a set the Lions were losing. Caden Mealy, a sophomore from Meadville, had 30 assists.
