The Penn State Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning approved a recommendation to name Sasaki Associates of Watertown, Massachusetts, as the architect for the Erie Hall project at Penn State Behrend during its meeting today (May 2). The recommendation goes to the full board for consideration on May 3.
In-kind gifts of software from global IT solutions provider Siemens are giving engineering and business students at Penn State Behrend access to three industry-leading design and manufacturing management platforms. Two additional gifts of software from RoboDK Inc. and Riskalyze Inc. likewise are benefiting students.
Penn State Behrend will renovate and repurpose the historic Federal House, the oldest brick structure in Harborcreek Township, to create a new home for the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Community Outreach, Research, and Evaluation (CORE). The $6.3 million project will be funded by private support and by the University.
Penn State industrial engineering alumnus William Korb and his wife, Wendy, who is also a Penn State graduate, have contributed $100,000 to fund and endow three Open Doors Scholarships in the College of Engineering.

Erie Insurance has partnered with Penn State Behrend to create scholarships for first-year students and funding for upper-level students to work with local businesses and nonprofits. In its first year, the $4 million program, called Excelerate, is expected to provide scholarships and stipends for as many as 50 students.
