Are you eager to broaden your horizons and deepen your understanding of other cultures? The Global Boarders Living Learning Community (LLC) is designed just for you! By joining Global Boarders, you'll have the unique opportunity to live alongside individuals who may not look, think, or act like you. You’ll also participate in specialized programming that will help you build your cultural competencies—key tools for success during and after college.

All Behrend students are invited to join and must complete the two-step process to be considered for the program:

  • STEP ONE: Choose Global Boarders as your preferred placement in the Housing process.
  • STEP TWO: Complete this application (no later than May 31).

Admission to the program is competitive; we are seeking committed students who want to engage and learn alongside the cohort. The application (step two) is due no later than May 31 at 5:00 p.m. EST. If step two is not completed by the deadline, the preference for Global Boarders in your Housing application will no longer be valid.

If admitted to the program, participants are expected to participate in the following programming to gain the credentials for completing the program.

Requirements for the Academic Year (Fall and Spring semesters)

  • Attend the GB Welcome session each semester
  • Attend two of the Global Boarders lectures or events per semester
  • Attend the Global Engagement and Leadership Experience (GELE) retreat
  • Attend the We Are the World cultural showcase and Sustainability Conference

What do you get for participating?

  • Global Boarders SWAG
  • A printed certificate of completion and a digital badge for LinkedIn or other online platforms
  • Individual results from the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Center and a personal developmental plan
  • Priority placement in the above-mentioned regional and University-wide programs

This program is facilitated in collaboration with Penn State Global Engagement, International Student Services, Residence Life, and Housing and Food Services.
