Twelve Penn State Behrend faculty members have been promoted and will begin the fall semester with a new academic rank. The promotions reflect their success in the classroom and in their other work at the college.
John Gamble was the first faculty member at Penn State Behrend to reach the rank of full professor, and the first to publish a book. Now, after 44 years at the college, he's beginning a new chapter.
Melanie Hetzel-Riggin, a professor of psychology at Penn State Behrend, was teaching a course on trauma and resiliency when COVID-19 plunged the class into a real-life case study. “We are by nature pack animals,” she said. “We form social groups as a means of survival, and we literally cannot do that right now.”

Ed Auslander, the retired president and chief executive officer of LORD Corporation, has endowed an early career professorship at Penn State Behrend. The gift will honor the late faculty member Chester "Chet" L. Wolford.
