The purpose of this procedure is to outline the college’s policy pertaining to course releases related to University service.
Budget permitting, the college provides teaching release for selected committee work at the University level.
University Faculty Senate
Each senator receives a course release every other year (1/2 per year) with the exception of the Senate Council representative, who receives a one-course release annually.
If a Behrend faculty member is a University Faculty Senate officer, he/she will receive a one-course release annually unless the Senate mandates otherwise.
For other types of University Faculty Senate leadership service, cases will be addressed on a case-by-case basis by the Academic Leadership Team.
Graduate Council
The college’s representative on Graduate Council will receive a one-course release annually.
Course releases are for the equivalent of three credit hours of instruction and normally should be taken during the same academic year in which the University service is performed for an annual course release and during the second year of University service when a course release is granted every other year. Course releases may not be “banked” or deferred unless approved in writing by the school director with the concurrence of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
