American Authors to perform tonight at Behrend soccer stadium

The concert, which is open only to Penn State Behrend students, is part of “Behrend First Friday,” a full night of programming to start the new semester.

A free concert by the pop-rock band American Authors will highlight “Behrend First Friday,” a full night of programming to start the new semester at Penn State Behrend.

The concert, which begins at 8 p.m. tonight, will be held at the Behrend soccer stadium. The performance will be open only to Penn State Behrend students.

American Authors formed at the Berklee College of Music in 2006. The band’s first album, “Oh, What A Life,” was released in 2014 and included the anthem “Best Day of My Life.” The song, which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, has since appeared in more than 600 movie trailers, TV shows and commercials.

The band has toured with Andy Grammar, OAR, OneRepublic and the Revivalists. Their latest single, “Nice & Easy,” is a collaboration with Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray.

“When you listen to us, the goal is for you to leave feeling hopeful and in a better mood,” singer-guitarist Zac Barnett has said. “The main thing we want is for you to go out and have fun.”

Doors open at 7 p.m. The opener, singer-songwriter Lisa Heller, begins at 8 p.m.

The concert is sponsored by Fraternity and Sorority Life. It’s one of three events for “Behrend First Friday.”

At 6 p.m., the Multi-Cultural Council will host a Culture Fest at the Reed Breakwall. This event will feature international food and snacks and a Calypso band.

At 11 p.m., the Lion Entertainment Board will host the first of the year’s “Behrend After Dark” programs, with free airbrush-designed fanny packs, snacks and a viewing of “In the Heights.”
