U.S. News ranks Behrend tech programs among nation's best

The 2021 rankings place the engineering programs at Penn State Behrend among the top 50 undergraduate engineering programs in the nation.

New rankings by U.S. News & World Report place the engineering programs at Penn State Behrend among the top 50 undergraduate engineering programs in the nation. Behrend is at No. 46 on the list, which was released Sept. 14.

The Black School of Business also appears in the rankings, listed as a “Best College” for undergraduate business programs.

Penn State Behrend is one of 14 institutions that share the No. 46 ranking for engineering programs that do not offer a doctorate. The University of Massachusetts, the California State University Maritime Academy and Brigham Young University also are ranked at No. 46. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology tops the list.

“This ranking demonstrates the continued commitment of our faculty and staff to prepare our students to be leaders in engineering,” said Tm Kurzweg, director of the School of Engineering. “Our unique programs blend traditional academics with research and outreach opportunities that give our students the tools to succeed.”

U.S. News has published annual “Best Colleges” rankings since 1983. Schools are evaluated on 16 measures of academic quality, including graduation rates, class size, financial aid availability and alumni giving. The engineering program rankings also use data from peer assessment surveys, which this year were sent to 220 ABET-accredited institutions, including Penn State Behrend.

The School of Engineering at Penn State Behrend offers 10 four-year degrees, a master’s in manufacturing management and two-year associate degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering technology. An innovative partnership with the Black School of Business and state-of-the-art facilities, including the nation’s largest undergraduate plastics processing lab, provide unique learning experiences that are highly valued by employers.
