2025 Keynote Speaker
Dave Boyce ’01
President and CEO, Bloom Engineering Company Inc.
Dave Boyce ’01 is the president and CEO of Bloom Engineering Company Inc., a global leader in high-temperature, low-emissions industrial combustion systems. Headquartered in Pittsburgh since 1934, Bloom Engineering serves the steel and aluminum industries through subsidiaries in Germany, India, and China.
Dave transferred to Penn State Behrend in 1998, focusing on heat transfer and thermal systems in mechanical engineering. He became the first co-op student at Aalborg Energy, one of the first tenants at the newly built Knowledge Park, gaining hands-on experience in heat recovery boilers and gas turbine combined-cycle power plants. His work caught the attention of Siemens Energy, which hired him in 2000 before he had even graduated.
During his eight years at Siemens, Dave held various engineering and management roles, including two years at the company’s headquarters in Germany. In 2008, family ties brought him back to Pennsylvania when CMI Energy acquired Aalborg, reuniting him with former colleagues—this time as vice president of engineering. His career took him to Belgium for fifteen months to lead CMI’s global engineering efforts before he returned to the United States in 2010 as head of international business development for Thermal Engineering International.
In 2011, CMI tapped him to lead its Youngstown, Ohio, steel furnace business as CEO. Two years later, when CMI planned for him to return indefinitely to Belgium, Bloom Engineering’s private equity owner in London recruited him to lead the Pittsburgh-based company. Intrigued by the challenges of private equity leadership, he accepted the role.
In 2022, Dave led a management buyout and equity restructuring with Caledonia Investments plc, driving initiatives to grow and improve the business. In December 2024, he guided Bloom through its acquisition by Wabtec Corporation, where he continues to lead, focusing on organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
Dave earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State Behrend in 2001 and received Penn State’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2013.
