Dr. Amila Madiligama has been an Assistant Teaching Professor of Physics at Penn State DuBois since 2018. He received his master's (2013) and Ph.D. (2016) in Physics from Western Michigan University.

I have extensive experience in magnetic, multi-caloric (specially magnetocaloric), and smart materials based on Huesler alloys. My research work focused on the characterization of crystalline structures, crystalline phases, martensitic and magnetic phase transformations, and magnetic properties of Giant Magnetocaloric Heusler alloy. I have vast experience in crystallographic characterization techniques such as x-ray, synchrotron, and neutron diffraction. Additionally, I have comprehensive analytical skills in analyzing diffraction data (X-ray, synchrotron, and both CW and TOF neutrons) using several different programs for processing and analyzing diffraction data such as the General Structure Analysis System (GSAS), GSAS expgui, Powder cell, FullProf, PDFgetX, and CMPR. Moreover, I have experience in other characterization techniques, such as Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS), especially for determining the chemical composition of the alloys.
