The Certificate in Public Relations (PR BC) offered at Penn State Behrend is designed for communication and business majors who wish to focus their supporting or non-business supporting coursework in a specific professional communication area. The certificate is also designed for working professionals interested in developing their skillset in public relations. The foundation of the certificate is developed in the Media Writing, Introduction to Public Relations, and Public Relations Media and Methods courses. Students are then allowed to choose one additional advanced course to complete the 12 required hours.
Requirements
A total of 12 credits are required to earn the certificate. A grade of C or better must be earned in each certificate course.
- COMM 315: Applications for Media Writing (required)
- COMM 370: Public Relations (required)
- COMM 471: Public Relations Media and Methods (required)
- COMM 472: Public Relations Event Planning -or- COMM 473: Public Relations Campaigns
This certificate cannot be completed in a single academic year and requires taking courses in a four semester sequence.
