Two students from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, were ranked among the nation’s best student investors when Institutional Investor magazine reviewed their stock portfolios after five months of simulated trading.
Nearly 700 students participated in the magazine’s All-America Student Analyst Competition. They represented 34 U.S. colleges and universities, including Drexel, Cornell, Loyola Marymount and the University of California at Berkeley.
Anton Jura, a senior from Oakville, Canada, placed 46th in the overall competition. His portfolio was reviewed for benchmark performance, volatility and net and gross exposure impact.
Jura graduated from Penn State Behrend in May, having earned degrees in finance and business economics.
Emily Kotermanski, a senior from Pittsburgh, placed 11th in the Consumer sector of the competition. Her portfolio generated a return of 16.22 percent.
Kotermanski graduated in December with degrees in accounting and finance.
“The Institutional Investor competition is a way for us to showcase our students and position them for future success,” said Hunter Holzhauer, assistant professor of finance. “We are very pleased with their performance, given that they were competing against highly ranked undergraduate and graduate programs throughout the country.”
