The college’s first “Trash to Treasure” event raised more than $900 for the United Way of Erie County. The May 26 sale, which was held in Erie Hall, made good use of the shoes, suitcases, coats and bicycles that students left behind when the semester ended.
Ann Quinn, faculty adviser for the Greener Behrend Task Force, and Stacy Pondo, head softball coach, present a check from the "Trash to Treasure" event to R.J. Zonna, senior vice president of the United Way of Erie County.
Another truckload of goods was donated to the Salvation Army. Several boxes of food were taken to a food bank in North East.
“This was pretty good, for a pilot program,” said Ann Quinn, the faculty adviser for the Greener Behrend Task Force, which coordinated the sale with help from the Penn State Behrend department of Athletics. “We hope to do even better next year.”
