Registration for College for Kids is Now Open

New class topics, including dinosaurs, music, snow creation, roller coasters, underwater robotics, and movie making, will be offered at this year’s College for Kids, the summer youth program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Included in the new offerings is “Survivor: Behrend Edition,” a class inspired by the popular television show of the same name. In the class, students will learn survival techniques while interacting with local search and rescue specialists.

The half-day classes begin June 16. Registration is now underway at www.behrend.psu.edu/kids.

This is the 21st year of College for Kids. More than 1,100 children between the ages of 6 and 16 are expected to enroll.

Several of the program’s most popular courses will be offered again, including Storm Chasing 101, with WJET meteorologist Tom Atkins; Video Game Development, where participants design their own video games; and Presque Isle Field Studies, a full-day program that involves hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing at Presque Isle State Park.

The one-week sessions begin June 16 and continue through Aug. 1. Before- and after-class care is available, if needed.

For a course catalog, or to register, go to www.behrend.psu.edu/kids or call the College for Kids office at 898-6103.
