Let's give a 'We Are!' to these Penn Staters — May 19

As part of our regular “We Are!” feature, we recognize 17 Penn Staters who have gone above and beyond what’s asked of them in their work at the University.   

This week, on behalf of the entire Penn State community, we’d like to say thank you to: 

  • Kristin Berrigan, administrative support assistant for the Department of Mathematics in the Eberly College of Science, whose nominator wrote: “Kristin coordinates all of our many visitors, including seminar speakers and research collaborators. She ensures all visitors have a smooth visit to the department, making sure their hotels are booked and paperwork is completed. She is very organized, and she is always respectful and kind.” 
  • Shannon Bishop, chief of staff in the College of Information Sciences and Technology, whose nominator wrote: “We’re so lucky to work with Shannon! While recognizing others, she leads with poise, connects teams and minimizes chaos, ensuring collaboration, clarity and support for the deans and the entire college.” 
  • Ashley Citarella, director of stewardship in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, whose nominator wrote: “Thank you for leading the stewardship team. Ashley has encouraged our staff to build a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their background. Ashley values diverse perspectives, which has allowed our staff to lead and produce better outcomes.” 
  • Maria Enriquez, associate teaching professor of theater at Penn State Harrisburg, whose nominator wrote: “Dr. Enriquez’s dedication to students has resulted in outstanding theatrical productions and lasting partnerships with local professionals, giving students real-world experiences that positively impact their time at Penn State, fuel their passions and help develop global citizens.” 
  • Scott Fotorny, IT generalist in Enrollment Management and Undergraduate Education, whose nominator wrote: “Scott is a lifesaver when we have IT issues. He is very knowledgeable in his field. He is quick to respond and goes above and beyond to help solve our problems. He is very kind and gives helpful tips on how to better navigate through programs. He is patient with us when we have questions.” 
  • Nicklas Gallo, IT consultant in the Nese College of Nursing, whose nominator wrote: “Nick is always available to help with an IT problem, and he does so with kindness and understanding of the situation. He is knowledgeable and willing to work with you to get your technology issue resolved. He is a true asset to the college. We are so fortunate to have Nick on our team.” 
  • Janine Gautiere, marketing strategist at Penn State Outreach, whose nominator wrote: “Janine is a diligent and creative employee. She goes above and beyond in her marketing role. Janine values new ideas and is a wonderful collaborator. She makes colleagues feel respected. She brings positivity and integrity to her role. Janine is awesome!” 
  • Glendaly Holland, administrative assistant in Penn State Global, whose nominator wrote: “Glendaly provides invaluable support to the international faculty advising team. Her behind-the-scenes work supports Penn State's international faculty. I appreciate her accuracy and quick turnaround time!” 
  • Kimberly Johnson, academic adviser in the Eberly College of Science, whose nominator wrote: “Kimberly expertly coordinated our second annual Health Professions Expo, managing more than 80 vendors and 300 students across five Penn State campuses. With an 18% increase in students and 30% more vendors than last year, she ensured a seamless, well-organized event. Thank you, Kimberly, for your dedication!” 
  • Kirsten Lynch, facilities representative in the College of Health and Human Development, whose nominator wrote: “Kirsten has been a total asset in onboarding me with the college and my assigned duties. She has taken numerous hours out of her day to onboard me, even though she's learning a new position herself. I'm grateful she's a part of the team and that I have the opportunity to work closely with her!” 
  • Tiffany Mathews, director of the Office of Science Engagement in the Eberly College of Science, whose nominator wrote: “Tiffany is an amazing colleague and advocate for students. She goes above and beyond to assist students with finding undergraduate research opportunities, navigating the search and application process for graduate school, and mentoring the next generation of scientists!” 
  • Teresa McCloskey, unit coordinator in University Police and Public Services, whose nominator wrote: “Teresa established the Parenting Outside the Lions employee resource group a little over a year ago. Since then, she has become a source of positivity, support and encouragement to our members. She will take the time to find resources and help for fellow staff members. Teresa is doing an incredible job!”  
  • Patricia McDermott, financial assistant for Housing and Food Services at Penn State Beaver, whose nominator wrote: “Tricia is always a smiling face on campus! She has worked endlessly to help our students, whether it is related to obtaining a housing contract or with anything they may need. She takes on new duties with determination and a positive attitude. Her kindness is unmatched. 'We Are!' so very thankful that she is on our team!” 
  • Brandon McDonald, tour guide coordinator in Undergraduate Admissions, whose nominator wrote: “Brandon comes to work every day focused on student success. Managing more than 80 Penn State tour guides, Brandon has created a thorough training process to prepare our students to deliver an impactful campus tour — and our visitors agree! They love their campus visit.” 
  • Jen Surrena, proposal and award generalist at Penn State Behrend, whose nominator wrote: “Jen’s expertise and dedication make her invaluable in the fast-paced world of grants and contracts. Approachable and detail-oriented, she consistently solves challenges, shares knowledge freely and supports the Behrend grants and contracts team and researchers with excellence. She embodies true teamwork and success.” 
  • Chris Wu, professor of mathematics at Penn State Beaver, whose nominator wrote: “Beginning after winter break, Chris Wu has set up drop-in tutoring time in the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) for anyone who needs some extra help with any math course. He has been available three times a week for an hour. Usually, there are people waiting to see him! His presence in the CAA has been such a positive addition!” 
  • Rosalie Yeager, administrative support assistant at Penn State Schuylkill, whose nominator wrote: “Rosalie worked tirelessly to organize a successful career fair, bringing together 70 employers and ensuring a great student turnout. Her dedication, attention to detail and hard work made the event exceptional. She went above and beyond to create valuable opportunities for students!”

Thank you to Kristin, Shannon, Ashley, Maria, Scott, Nicklas, Janine, Glendaly, Kimberly, Kirsten, Tiffany, Teresa, Patricia, Brandon, Jen, Chris and Rosalie — and to everyone who helps make Penn State such an incredible community!
