Discussing International Status with Employers
Common Question #1: Should I list my visa status on my résumé?
Your visa status should not be included on your résumé. Hiring managers will ask the appropriate questions during the recruitment process. You should never lie about your visa status. Employers may ask if you are legally authorized to work in the United States; they cannot ask about your nationality, place of birth, or citizenship.
Common Question #2: When do I reveal I am an international student in the hiring process?
It is usually recommended that students address their work status during the first or second interview, but no later than the time of the job offer. For assistance with adjusting to campus and U.S. culture, and other support services, contact International Student Services in Reed Union Building, call 814-898-6031, or visit the ISS website.
