Students wishing to re-enroll into a Penn State Behrend major or pre-major after leaving under academic suspension or academic warning must prepare a written statement requesting re-enrollment.
This statement should include:
- Reflection on your past goals, your original major plan, and your performance;
- Description of any circumstances that caused the academic difficulties that led to your suspension and how those circumstances have changed;
- Description of what you have accomplished while away from Penn State Behrend;
- Development of realistic goals for your prospective major and an academic recovery plan to achieve those goals;
- Identification of campus services that will support you upon your return.
Optional documentation includes:
- Transcripts demonstrating successful course completion at another institution; completion of online study skills or time management tutorials; bibliography of recent reading;
- An essay that chronicles your personal growth. How have you changed as a person? What contributed to this growth?
- A list of activities demonstrating your engagement in exploration or change. Examples are certification of job shadowing, volunteering, work, rehabilitation, or medical documentation.
In addition to this written statement, you must submit the Undergraduate Re-enrollment Form.

Submission deadlines for students wishing to return from academic suspension and warning are:
- For a Spring 2023 semester return: December 2, 2022
- For a Summer 2023 semester return: April 14, 2023
- For a Fall 2023 semester return: July 14, 2023
- For a Spring 2024 semester return: December 1, 2023
If your re-enrollment is approved, you will return to Penn State in warning status, with your former cumulative grade-point average, and with an academic warning or college hold placed on registration. You will be assigned an academic adviser based on your intended major. Your assigned adviser can request removal of the registration hold once the two of you have developed an academic recovery plan and course scheduling options.
Students returning from suspension who earn less than a 2.0 term GPA during their first semester back are academically dismissed for four years. Therefore, it is critically important to have an academic recovery plan in place. If you have additional questions, please refer to the Faculty Senate policy on Academic Progress.
