The 4+1 Fast Track Master's Program in Manufacturing Management is available to students in any major, but it might be particularly beneficial for business or engineering students—especially those majoring in Interdisciplinary Business with Engineering Studies—to further their studies.

Before taking classes in Behrend’s M.M.M. program, you will need to demonstrate competence in math, business, and engineering. You can meet the academic requirements for admission to the M.M.M. program at Behrend in one of two ways:

  • Pathway 1: Take this path if you’ve achieved a grade of B or better in certain undergraduate courses.
  • Pathway 2: Take this path if you haven’t completed the required undergraduate courses. You’ll be asked to take online modules to fulfill the academic requirements.
Justin Hockenberger

After completing my four-year degree in IBE, I felt like I was ready and prepared to join the workforce. After learning about the M.M.M. program, though, I decided to continue my education and further my credentials towards a management position. The M.M.M. program is often referred to as 'IBE on steroids,' and understandably so. In the M.M.M. program, there is a connection between what I learned in IBE and application in managerial positions. ... The combination of these degrees in a 4+1 format taught me many business principles, as well as how to apply them within my current and future roles. I feel much more comfortable to be able to hit the ground running as I join the workforce.

Pathway 1—Undergraduate Courses

You’ll follow this pathway if you’ve earned a grade of B or better in the Penn State undergraduate courses listed below, or their equivalent in similarly accredited institutions, within the past seven years.

If you’re a current Penn State undergraduate student, you might be required to take all or most of these courses for your bachelor's degree, depending on your major—meaning if you earn a B or better in these undergraduate courses, you can fulfill requirements for Pathway 1.

Undergraduate Required Courses

Students must have successfully completed the following Penn State undergraduate courses, or their equivalent, with a grade of B or better:

Math Courses

  • Statistics: STAT 200 or SCM 200
  • Calculus: MATH 83, MATH 110, or MATH 140

Business Courses

  • Management and Economics: MGMT 301 and ECON 102 or ECON 104
  • Marketing and Operations: MKTG 301 and SCM 301
  • Finance and Accounting: FIN 301 and ACTG 211

Engineering Courses

  • Computer-Aided Drawing/Engineering Design: EDSGN 100 or EGT 120

For details on Penn State courses, see the Undergraduate Bulletin.

Pathway 2—Online Modules

You’ll follow this pathway if you haven’t completed the Undergraduate Required Courses, listed above, with a grade of B or better. You can take online modules, offered by external partners, to fulfill the academic admission requirements to the M.M.M. program. You’ll take only the modules you need.

If you’re an undergraduate student in a science, humanities, or engineering major, you can plan ahead and take the modules while completing your bachelor’s degree for seamless entry into the M.M.M. program.

Modules are self-paced and can be started anytime. Students may need all modules or only a few, depending on demonstrated competency from their transcripts. Each module finishes with a pass/fail exam, which can be repeated. Students must attain a “pass” rating. Students must complete and pass all required modules one week before they begin their first classes.

Students should contact the M.M.M. program chairs for guidance on which modules need to be taken.

James Goodsel

The M.M.M. program's hybrid class schedule gave me a lot of freedom on how I could  complete the coursework, which made juggling a job and extracurriculars that much easier. ... The M.M.M. program introduced new manufacturing processes and led us to visit several different manufacturing companies. Being able to learn about other processes, and witness them firsthand, helps unlock critical thinking skills that can be translated back to improve a native process.
