Science-related companies don’t just hire scientists—they need business-minded employees, too, to manage money, monitor supply chains, handle sales, interpret consumer behavior, and manage marketing.
With the B.S. in Interdisciplinary Science and Business (ISB) from Penn State Behrend, you’ll be uniquely qualified for positions on the business side of science, technology, and health-care organizations—prepared with a deep understanding of what the company does along with the know-how to help lead it to future success.
Why Penn State Behrend?
ISB is one of only a handful of business-science programs nationwide and the only such undergraduate program within Penn State. The interdisciplinary nature of the program is underscored by its joint administration by Penn State Behrend’s School of Science and Black School of Business.
You’ll tailor your ISB degree to your interests by choosing a specialized block of courses on both the science side (quantitative science, laboratory science, or human health) and on the business side (accounting and finance, technical sales, or operations and supply chain management).
Then in your required capstone project, you’ll build on your coursework from both disciplines into a real-world application—which may be delivered in class, independent study, or internship experience—that emphasizes communication, strategy, and product development. At the end of the capstone course, you will understand how the science and business courses and your selected modules fit together to prepare you for a successful career on the business side of a science-based company.
