Approximately 50 middle-school students attended this year's Wabtec Girls camp at Penn State Behrend. The weeklong program prepares students for careers in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
A snow-themed class put a new spin on Penn State Behrend’s College for Kids, a six-week summer-enrichment program. Students stitched their own winter hats and built igloos with marshmallows.
This year's Wabtec Girls camp at Penn State Behrend offered hands-on workshops in science, technology and engineering. "We're trying to encourage these young women to stay in math and science courses," said Melanie Ford, director of Youth Education Outreach at Behrend and the coordinator of the camp.
Improvements to the trail system in the Wintergreen Gorge at Penn State Behrend will protect plant and animal life in the area, which is popular with hikers and trail runners.

Because basic knowledge about the spotted lanternfly's biology remains limited, a team of Penn State researchers is collaborating with the Center for Quantitative Imaging to detail the spotted lanternfly's anatomy and physiology.
