'Made in America' class at Penn State Behrend

Hannah Kemmet, right, a senior in the industrial engineering program at Penn State Behrend, taught a "Made in America" course during this summer's College for Kids. The weeklong class included sandcasting, 3-D printing and custom-poured chocolates.

Penn State Behrend’s 2023-24 academic year will begin Saturday, Aug. 23, with the college’s Academic Convocation. The program, which begins at 9 a.m. in Junker Center, is mandatory for all new Behrend students.

The Run for Women 5K run/walk returns to Penn State Behrend on Aug. 24. The annual event, which is sponsored by the Women’s Engagement Council at Behrend, is designed to build community among women at all fitness levels.

The winning picture in the 2025 Penn State Today summer photo contest was submitted by Shrinishtaa Srinivas, an undergraduate student studying film and communications at Penn State Harrisburg. The submitted caption reads: "This photo, taken in late summer 2024, shows blooming tropical hibiscus flowers in front of the Vartan Plaza fountain at the Harrisburg campus. I took the picture for my COMM 215 basic photography course."

The submitted caption reads: "Jane, a sandhill crane, walks the trails at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center on July 24, 2025. Jane is an ambassador animal at Shaver's Creek's Klingsberg Aviary, where she helps to educate and inspire conservation action. Jane takes regular walks supervised by staff and students in the center's wildlife education program."
